SOLIDARITY
Our ocean provides livelihoods, food security, cultural and spiritual connections for millions of people.
We stand united with Indigenous Peoples and coastal communities across the Pacific who are leading the charge against DSM. Inspired by their activism and leadership, we collaborate strategically with both regional and global partners to amplify their voices and support their efforts.
Our strength is rooted in our partnerships with frontline organisations and we deeply honor Indigenous knowledge, respecting cultural heritage and fostering connections to ancestral lands and waters.
Deep sea mining poses a grave threat to our oceans and communities. We are committed to opposing these harmful practices, standing shoulder to shoulder with those who are protecting our oceans.
Join us in this crucial fight for our shared future and to protect the global commons.
Mining the deep sea for minerals poses a significant risk to ocean ecosystems. Deep sea mining (DSM) also threatens the deep cultural and spiritual connections of islanders and maritime communities who have navigated, fished and traded across oceanscapes for thousands of years.
Indigenous Peoples and organisations across the Pacific have called for the legal norm of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) and the Precautionary Principle to be applied to deep sea mining proposals in all jurisdictions.
A growing number of Pacific leaders and civil society are calling for a ban on deep sea mining.
The momentum for a moratorium towards a ban on deep sea mining is growing, with 32 countries joining the wave of resistance.
